Tom and Jean are just a couple of old fogies trying to plant a church in the Lawrenceville neighborhood of Pittsburgh. Jean sometimes teaches spanish and administrates various entities. Tom edits books for a publishing company. Belle, their dog, would rather they stay home all the time.
Tom, Things happen when you leave GC. I like what I see and hear about your venture. Email me, love to hear from you.

Great to read your blog-keep up the great work and thank for visiting my site!
Tom – I really enjoy reading your blog! I’m going to link to your site from mine.
Thanks for your comment on Tim’s blog. I think it was well spoken and full of truth. Not that it’s about taking sides, that is not my intent, but it truly scares me how many go to these conferences and take what is said as truth without giving it a second thought. I am not implying that on Tim whatsoever but it does happen so often.
out of curiosity what publishing co. do you work for? i have some friends with books coming out soon, so i thought it would be neat to see if any of them were with the same compay. (also, please forgive my ending the first sentence of this paragraph with a preposition. normally i am a stickler for such things, but just woke up from a nap).
and forgive my horrible spelling of “company”…nap. nap.
You’ve got to be a good guy if your name is Tom! I’m the director of Eagle Crest Ministries here in Alaska. For the last 25+ yrs. Our purpose has been to help Pastors and Christian Leaders avoid burnout. I’m sure you know that burnout is a very serious issue in the church today. Pastors and Christian leaders that burnout very seldom recover to at least where they were when it happened. And many times lose their marriages and familys.
Our ministry works to prevent it! our mission statement is “What we do will help you do what you do better! Alaska is a very unique and special place to do this. What we do is take our clients out into the wilderness to a wilderness Lodge to fish and/or just relax. Away from cell phones and all the other gadgets we feel are necessary for ministry. Most will fish for 2 or 3 days, then sleep for the rest of the week. In the years that we have been doing this (25+) God has lead some of the top Christian Leaders and Pastors in the Nation to our Ministry. Everyone of our clients upon leaving has said to us (in some way) “I didn’t know how much I needed that!”.
God has taken our ministry in a new direction and that is to Honor our War veterans and assist them in their recovery. Check out my web site, it will explane in some detail how we do that http://www.ecmalaska.com.
One of the keys to our success has been that we never ask any of our clients for anything, including advise or contacts, just to serve them and we only charged them expenses.
I would like to ask some advise from you if that is OK. In the 40+ years that I’ve lived here in Alaska, most of that time Alaska has been my back yard. I’m a “Bush Pilot” (what ever that means) and hunting and fishing guide. My life so to speak has been about Adventure. I’ve never had the slightest intrest in writing a book , but I think God is leading me in that direction.
My mother who went to be with the Lord in April, 3 months short of 100 yrs. old. spent days and days alone with the Lord studying scripture and asking God for truth and insight about Marriage. Some of the insight that God gave her is very powerful and must be considered as “New truth” (all right out of scripture). I have shared some of this material over the years with some of my clients (Gary Smalley, Dr. Gary Oliver, Dr. Dave Wardell) everyone has said to me Tom you need to write a book about that. I asked Gary Smalley about this and he said most all the books out there are basically the same material said a little differently.
My question is would a book with new truth (biblical) be something a publisher would be interested in. I know less than nothing about the publishing business, please consider that.
